Moraira

TEULADA - MORAIRA is a Municipality of the Marina Alta, it belongs to the tourist area known as the Costa Blanca. A Municipality which is different from others because it has two town centres, one interior, Teulada and the other on the coast, Moraira.

Its charm is mainly due to the fact that although it has had a spectacular growth over the years it has maintained its beautiful surroundings. The growth has been orientated to the conservation of the natural resources, traditions and customs, a sustainable development to guarantee its future.

It is situated in the north of the province between Benissa and Gata de Gorgos, in the bay which forms the “Cabo de Oro” and “Punta Estrella” or “Cabo Blanco”. At 75 kms from Alicante capital and 31 kms from Benidorm.

According to the latest information from the National Institute of Statistics, on the 1st January 2008 Teulada-Moraira had 14.185 inhabitants.

With regards to important monuments to be mentioned in the first place is the beautiful late gothic church of “Santa Catalina Martir” (Saint Catherine) of the XV century, the look out tower on the Cabo de Oro (Cap D’Or) or the magnificent Castle of Moraira situated by the main beach known as “Playa de Ampolla”.

Teulada-Moraira has 8 kms of coastline with beaches and small coves such as El Portet, la Playa de Ampolla, Les Platjetes, La Cala, etc.

It is a tourist Municipality with its two town centres, its important agricultural industry of grape vines, grapes for the table, for currants and of course the famous “Moscatel” wine. The cooperative “Cooperativa San Vicente Ferrer” makes with these grapes excellent wines such as the white wine “Villa Teulada” and the sweet wine “Moscatel”.

In Teulada-Moraira the “Fiestas” (public holidays) are duplicated with the celebration of the Patron Saints holidays of both Teulada and Moraira and also many other celebrations for instance the Moor and Christians of Moraira, the “Hogeres de San Juan” and the “Fiesta del Moscatel de Teulada” (the grape harvest festival).

Other elements which are notable a difference with other locations is the gastronomy with the large and varied amount of offers available. There are a large number of restaurants with traditional cooking and many other prestigious with “Haute Cuisine”. All without forgetting their roots and the traditional dishes such as “arroz a banda, paella valenciana (rice dishes) el cruet de pescado de la bahia de Moraira (typical fish stew of Moraira) el puchero de polp (octopus stew) and Mistela.

A Municipality with charm and interesting symbiosis of interior and coastline, tradition, development, tourism, services, activities, sports, etc.. A Municipality which grow respecting traditions and with the future in mind.
